NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
Trout Lake Park June 24th
Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
(604) 872-6723
This celebration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society, 1607 E. Hastings St., with a free pancake breakfast, entertainment and speeches followed by a parade to Trout Lake Park.
I will be there at nine with my sash tied around my leather bag and looking longingly at the pancakes with a knife and fork in either hand.
If you see me come up and introduce yourself.
Live entertainment will take place at the park from noon to 5 p.m., with canoe rides on the lake for kids and craft tables, as well as free burgers and hotdogs for all attendees.
Entertainers will include: Earl Charters performing traditional hoop dancing with as many as 30 hoops at a time; Art Napoleon's bush-country blues, which combines the sound of fiddles, guitars and harmonicas with traditional hand-drums and vocals in both Cree and English; singer-songwriter Kinnie Starr with her mix of rock, folk and hip hop; and Discreet, young hip-hop singers from North Vancouver
The event is a joint effort of many agencies, including the Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society, the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society and Trout Lake Community Centre.
Bring your own chairs and blankets.
